Planning to ski at Vlašić from Banja Luka, but you do not know how long it takes to reach Babanovac or what your car must have by law? A ski day often goes wrong before you reach the piste: a late start, wrong expectations about the ticket price, or a vehicle that is not ready for winter. Do you know how much time to allow for the drive and which ticket pays off?

Below you get the route and driving time, the Vlašić ski resort with its pistes and lifts, the ski pass price list for the 2025/26 season and the winter equipment for the road. If you need a car for a ski day, send us your date by phone, WhatsApp or Viber.

Skiing at Vlašić From Banja Luka - Route and Driving Time

On 19 October 2026 Google Maps showed three routes from Banja Luka to Babanovac, from 88.2 to 96.6 km and from 1 h 46 min to 1 h 59 min of driving. Allow about two hours one way: if you leave early you get a full ski session, and if you leave late the time on the piste melts away fast.

Google Maps, checked on 19 October 2026. Times are not guaranteed and change with road conditions.

All three variants end on the regional road R413 and differ only in the section from Banja Luka: the first goes via R414, the second via M4 and the third via E661/M16. The first is the shortest, but a 13-minute difference compared with the longest is no reason to pick a route in advance. In winter, snow, ice and traffic affect driving time more than kilometres do, so use the table as a guide, not as a promise.

Planning Your Ski Day From Banja Luka

The day ticket at Babanovac is valid from 09:00 to 16:00, so it is simplest to plan backwards. If you want to be on the piste at nine, count on leaving around 6:30: two hours of driving plus half an hour for a break, collecting your ticket and putting on your ski boots. If you stay until the ticket expires, expect to be home around 18:00.

If you cannot get up early, there is another option. Night skiing at Babanovac starts at 18:30, so leaving Banja Luka after work around 16:00 leaves enough time to arrive, but not to rush. For either variant, on the day of departure open your navigation and check road conditions with BIHAMK and the competent road services, and for the part of the route in the Federation also with JP Ceste FBiH, because a single navigation estimate does not know what is happening on the mountain in January.

What to Bring in the Car for a Ski Day?

A ski day starts in the boot, not on the piste. Bring a valid driving licence and ID card, spare warm socks and gloves, sunglasses or a ski mask, sunscreen because snow reflects the sun, a flask with a hot drink and a bottle of water. For wet gear bring a bag you will not leave on the seat, because ski boots and jackets do not dry in the car after a run. Also do not forget a phone charger, because cold drains the battery fast, and you need the phone for navigation and for contacting us if the plan changes.

The Return Trip From the Mountain

The return is the part of the day people often underestimate. After a full day on the snow the driver is tired and it gets dark early in winter, so drive more slowly than on the way in and take a break if you feel drowsy. If a friend or family member drives part of the way, agree on the swap before you leave. Before you get behind the wheel, check road conditions again, because afternoon conditions often differ from the morning ones.

Vlašić Ski Resort - Babanovac, Pistes and Lifts

The Vlašić ski resort at Babanovac is run by Ozon dd Travnik. According to the operator, Babanovac is about 28 km from Travnik, the base station is at 1,235 m, the top at 1,525 m, and there are about 15 km of pistes in total, mostly easy and medium difficulty, which suits recreational skiing and families.

The operator's price list names the lifts Babanovac I, Babanovac II and Markovac. The operator also mentions a ski school at the resort, as well as ski equipment rental, so you do not have to buy a full kit if you are only trying it out. The operator's phone number is 030/540-286. The resort's operation depends on snow and on the operator's decisions, so confirm the lift schedule on the day of departure.

Night Skiing at Vlašić

On 19 October 2026 Ozon listed night skiing from 18:30 to 21:30 on the Babanovac I and II lifts, with a separate night ticket of 25 KM according to the 2025/26 price list. This is practical if you cannot leave in the morning: from Banja Luka you can reach the mountain after work, and you come home late in the evening, so night driving in winter needs extra care. Confirm the 2026/27 schedule with the operator.

Ski Equipment and Ski School

If you do not have your own equipment, according to the operator you can rent skis and equipment at the resort, and ski school instructors work there too. For beginners that is the difference between a ski day and a day spent hunting for equipment around Banja Luka. The operator does not list rental prices and school times in the ski ticket price list, so ask them directly.

Vlašić Ski Pass - Prices for the 2025/26 Season

According to the Ozon price list for the 2025/26 season, checked on 19 October 2026, a day ski ticket at Vlašić cost 32 KM. Check the 2026/27 price list with the operator before you go.

Which Ticket Is Worth It for You?

The calculation from the 2025/26 price list shows a few things. A half day costs only 7 KM less than a full day, so the shorter ticket pays off only if you really plan to leave earlier. The two-day ticket is 59 KM, about 29.50 KM per day, so it is cheaper than two single day tickets. A single ride costs 5 KM, so seven rides already exceed the price of a day ticket, which makes single rides an option only for a short stay. The night ticket at 25 KM is cheaper than the day ticket, but covers three hours. The seven-day ticket at 200 KM works out at about 28.60 KM per day, but it pays off only if you really plan to ski several days during the season, because one day fewer wipes out the difference straight away.

For a family of four, four day tickets at the 2025/26 price list come to 128 KM, without equipment, fuel and food. Count ticket and vehicle costs separately, because the former change by season and the latter depend on the car you choose and the number of days.

Skiing at Vlašić and Winter Equipment for the Road

Rulebook on Traffic in Winter Conditions (Official Gazette of BiH 83/20) stipulates that winter equipment must be on the vehicle from 1 November to 1 April, regardless of weather conditions. The Rulebook allows three combinations: winter tyres on all wheels, winter tyres on the drive wheels with chains or another traction device, or summer tyres with at least 4 mm of tread with chains. The 4 mm rule applies only to the third combination, not to every winter tyre. All our vehicles have winter equipment, and everything about the period, combinations and tyre markings is in our guide Winter Equipment in Bosnia.

You recognise a winter tyre by the marking on the sidewall: the Rulebook lists markings such as M+S, MS, M&S, Snow or Winter. The Rulebook also leaves open the possibility that the competent authority for a given road prescribes winter equipment outside the standard period, so if you are heading to Vlašić in March or April, check the information before you set off.

Winter equipment is a requirement, not a guarantee that the road is passable. On the mountain section of the road in winter, the driver's behaviour matters more than the vehicle's drive.

Preparing for the Mountain Section of the Road

Fill the tank before you leave. Check the washer fluid and clear all windows, because ice and salt from the main road quickly smear the windscreen. On an uphill, leave a bigger gap to the vehicle ahead, and downhill use engine braking instead of constant pressure on the brake, because hot and wet brakes behave differently in winter. If heavy snow starts or visibility drops, it is better to turn back than to continue.

Which Vehicle to Rent for Vlašić in Winter?

Choose the vehicle by number of people, gearbox and budget. Our Skoda Kodiaq 2026 is an automatic, 2.0 diesel, 4x4, with seven seats, and costs 200 KM a day. For seven passengers that is about 29 KM per person for the whole day, which is less than the price of one day ski ticket, excluding fuel and skiing costs. The two Skoda Octavia 2020 cars are also automatic, 2.0 diesel, 4x4, with five seats, at 100 KM a day each, and for two or three passengers who do not need 4x4 you can also look at other models in the price list, from 60 KM a day for the Renault Clio.

4x4 does not replace the legally required winter equipment and does not change the rules for driving in snow. For the vehicle decision, passenger count and luggage matter more than drive: skis, ski boots and bags need space, and that is easier to solve with a bigger car than by improvising.

Pick-up and return are arranged around your schedule, and we are available 0-24, so we can also arrange an early start for a ski day. Our service areas are Banja Luka, Gradiska and Banja Luka Airport, and everything about pick-up in the city is on the Banja Luka page. If the weather spoils the plan, cancellation is free of charge up to 48 hours before pick-up; for cancellation 24 to 48 hours before pick-up, 50 KM is charged, and for less than 24 hours or a no-show, the price of one rental day. You can find the full overview in the rental terms.

What Do You Need to Rent and How Far Will You Drive?

For pick-up you need an ID card, a driving licence and an address, and foreign nationals bring a passport; all documents must be valid. VAT and insurance are included in the rental price, and payment is in cash or against an invoice. We agree mileage per vehicle and period, and the deposit by arrangement, so ask about them in advance.

For a ski day, mileage is not a small item. According to the Google Maps display, the return trip to Babanovac is roughly 176 to 193 km, and you still need to add driving around the resort and the surrounding area. So in your message with the date, write how many days you need the car and how many passengers you are travelling with, and we will choose together a vehicle that suits both the trip and the budget.

What to Check Before Heading to Vlašić?

Four things come from four different sources and may change shortly before your date:

  • the ski pass for the 2026/27 season and the lift schedule, with the operator Ozon;
  • road conditions on the route you choose, on the day of departure, with BIHAMK or JP Ceste FBiH;
  • parking at the resort, directly with the operator;
  • pick-up time and the vehicle you have chosen, with us.

If Vlašić is not your only plan, the Kozara ski centre is another winter option from Banja Luka, and for day trips outside the season see our guide to day trips from Banja Luka.

Kozara Ski Centre as a Second Option From Banja Luka

If Vlašić is too far for one day, from Banja Luka you can also consider the Kozara ski centre. For prices, routes and opening hours use the current information from the centre itself.
